HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE NEW BEVERLY'S JULIA!
If you’re a regular at the New Beverly Cinema or just an occasional visitor, you’ve no doubt had your ticket taken, your popcorn popped or your mood brightened by the lovely and talented Julia Marchese. Julia is a writer and blogger for Chud.com as well as the New Beverly’s special events coordinator and an aspiring actress—one of her dreams is to become a bona fide screen scream queen. This week—March 18, to be specific—Julia turns 30 and the New Beverly Cinema is celebrating by screening two of Julia’s favorites, The In Crowd (1988) and The Blob (1988), both featuring Donovan Leitch, who will be at the New Beverly on March 18 to help Julia blow out her birthday candles in person. Along with Michael Torgan, Phil Blankenship, Brian Quinn and Eric Caidin, Julia is a New Beverly regular whose charming, welcoming presence makes the theater a unique and vital center of the Los Angeles revival cinema scene. I hope I can stop by and wish her happy birthday in person this week, maybe even on March 18, and I hope you can too. But if I can’t, may you have the bestest of birthdays, Julia, and a long and rewarding acting career, all the while always somehow managing to find the time to hit the stage and introduce the movies and filmmakers at the New Beverly. Cheers!
Whoa, Phil Blankenship? AKA The Cherry Point, one of the great modern noise acts and the proprietor of Troniks Records. I released a tape by him a while back when my own record label was still going. Small world.
