That said, I am really glad that I got out to the theater to see it; the music and Malick's visuals washing over me was a great experience. I think the source of my frustration is that the film plays at the notion of having a narrative, but I think that Malick was intending to dump it from the beginning, using the actors working hard on the movie they thought they were making as a rudimentary template in which he will shatter and use only shards to mirror what he is looking at. It is something akin to using real blood in a painting to stand in for red paint. It doesn't really seem fair to the actors. It doesn't seem that he really respects what they do. That being said I suppose the artist is entitled to his process. xegoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-13007674424529460292012-01-28T19:09:57.401-08:002012-01-28T19:09:57.401-08:00God, Poetry was an awesome experience. I've been debating whether to see War Horse before it leaves--I have a lot of other movies on my plate--but I think you've convinced me to see it tomorrow.Vulnavia Morbiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04722740955194993451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-38868197064981055032012-01-18T19:15:30.018-08:002012-01-18T19:15:30.018-08:00A few movies that I wish had gotten more attention...A few movies that I wish had gotten more attention in 2011: the strange, beguiling TO DIE LIKE A MAN; the claustrophobic, harrowing one act play that was LEAP YEAR; the surprising, touching short story that was TERRI; LETTERS FROM THE BIG MAN, a soulful sasquatch movie that played out like a collaboration between John Sayles and Joe; and the awesome TYRANNOSAUR with the awesome Olivia Coleman and the awesome Peter Mullan and the awesome Eddie Marsan. Jeff Wells wasn't wrong on that one.graig gilkesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17297541336018516061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-75582705392743823102012-01-18T05:11:41.606-08:002012-01-18T05:11:41.606-08:00Dennis - great stuff, this is going to be fun! I didn't hate it or anything - I just clearly was not seeing in it what other people were seeing.Sheila O'Malleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05859697259996394827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-48626555806649551172012-01-17T13:33:56.072-08:002012-01-17T13:33:56.072-08:00Another Earth, Melancholia, Beginners, Harry Potte...Another Earth, Melancholia, Beginners, Harry Potter and the etc. Pt. 2, Take Shelter, Tree of Life, Went the Day Well?, Super 8, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Bridesmaids, War Horse-- all good, nothing lifechanging. Still have to see The Artist and Pina. Maybe best time at the movies was seeing "West Side Story" on the big screen with Emma (11 years old), and having her fall in love with it at about the same age I fell in love with it all those years ago.Thom McGregorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11714535798252336806noreply@blogger.com
