I know this is a virtual impossibility, but if it ever shows up on the big screen, see it. If not, make it the biggest HDTV you can find!

MAB: I won't cop (out) to your accusation. If I'd said Kevin Smith's films were bad because he smoked too much (reefer and ciggies) or because he was too fat and the burger grease was clouding his judgment, then maybe... And though I dread going back to see them for fear my repulsion at what what Brian accurately describes as his rampant Lonesome Rhodesesque ego might curdle what I initially found appealing about them, I'm not suggesting that the old movies have been a priori ruined for me. (I do worry most about Dogma, which actually meant something to me.) I think it's fair to report that his past few movies have been duds on a level of desperation to match the fever of his relentless self-promotion, and on that basis I have lost all interest in him as a filmmaker. I also think if he's interested in doing anything other than further navel gazing, he ought to try to film other people's scripts more often. This to you is on the level of Schickel's nasty dismissal of Altman's entire career, a filmmaker who, by the way, is a degree or two more accomplished and significant than Smith?Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-62846002933341361052010-04-13T23:54:34.336-07:002010-04-13T23:54:34.336-07:00Dude, I think you just Shickeled Kevin Smith. sham...Dude, I think you just Shickeled Kevin Smith. shame on u!The Mysterious Ad[ri.an B)e;ta]m.a.x.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14584835204677201232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-21893268445383160462010-04-11T21:14:44.066-07:002010-04-11T21:14:44.066-07:00Terrific quiz and even better answers. Those early films are so good, and now he's such an obnoxious, hipster doofus. It's like he's a slacker Lonesome Rhodes-- using the everyman schtick to cover up the monsterous ego.

And hooray for Gordon Willis, the man I'm convinced is the most important figure in 1970s American cinema.
