Seems we can't convince the big guys with the clippers that it's an "emergency" situation. But I really did appreciate how the whole week kind of dove-tailed with seeing that movie. That kind of experience doesn't come around too often, and considering some of the horrific movies we like to watch (Final Destination 3 opens February 10!), I think that's for the best!

psaga: It means a lot to me that you enjoyed the piece. When I hear you or Blaaagh or Peet, fine writers all, or many of the others that regularly chime in here react in such a way, it makes me feel like I'm on the right track. And it really is a wonderful movie. I'm just sorry I got to it so late!Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1138384732853273332006-01-27T09:58:00.000-08:002006-01-27T09:58:00.000-08:00Peet: It's done. As always, thanks for the kind words and the encouragement. I owe you an e-mail, which will be on its way today-- and there are two Christmassy girls with furry hats and cute smiles on their way to the Netherlands as of yesterday as well. Look for 'em!Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1138354616753699502006-01-27T01:36:00.000-08:002006-01-27T01:36:00.000-08:00Wonderful, wonderful writing, Dennis. Now if you go and rent BIRTH, already, I'll try to catch up on this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1138326414193545682006-01-26T17:46:00.000-08:002006-01-26T17:46:00.000-08:00I don't want to hijack a thread, but I absolutely ...I don't want to hijack a thread, but I absolutely must note that the legendary character actor MR. CHARLES LANE IS 101 today.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0485272/

You will recognize this man from about a million (give or take a few hundred thousand) movies and TV shows from the 50s through the 90s. He's played the crotchety old SOB in almost everything you've EVER seen. You grew up with him. Unlike your gin-soaked, cookware-flinging parents, he's ALWAYS been there for you. If you're over the age of 40 (give or take a few), Mr. Lane's image is in your brain almost as indelibly as Dig-Em the Sugar Smacks frog or Bobby Sherman's black choker.

I just had to mark this major milestone. One-hundred-and-one freaking years on this earth, for crying out loud!

Congratulations, Charles Lane! Here's looking forward to another 101!

Thank you very much. Now back to your regularly scheduled commentary.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1138323739445298472006-01-26T17:02:00.000-08:002006-01-26T17:02:00.000-08:00Dennis, if ever there were a perfect confluence of...Dennis, if ever there were a perfect confluence of your personal storytelling and your film reviewing, this was it! (er, to echo->filch your words) Read it yesterday, when it really made my morning, and happily revisited it again today. Thank you for describing recent daily life in the Basin, for recommending TM so eloquently, and for writing those words at the heart of your last paragraph. Be well, and mind those crashing branches and too-long workdays!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1138248717061843272006-01-25T20:11:00.000-08:002006-01-25T20:11:00.000-08:00I at first read only the part about your experienc...I at first read only the part about your experience of the storm--and only this evening went back and read about the film and your experience of watching it. What a nice piece of writing! Guess I have to see this movie now. Storms have tossed everything around up here, too: New Year's Eve I spent most of the day repairing a leak in the roof, where shingles had blown off. Still, that's an impressive blown-down branch!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1138226258957784172006-01-25T13:57:00.000-08:002006-01-25T13:57:00.000-08:00Dennis, I think you and I have sibling foliage. I ...Dennis, I think you and I have sibling foliage. I too have a rather large tree that is trying it's best to do a very good impression of a giant redwood. It also seems to do a very good impression of Elizabeth Berkley by dropping it's leafy clothing at this time every year which of course riles me to no end since I end up having to pick up what seems like 4000 lbs of the stuff. Yet these past few days have been sort of a blessing to me as well as raising a few tense moments. You see, these blustery winds we have nearly threaten to topple my tree every year and these past few days have been no different. I've spent a few agonizing moments watching from the comfort of my bedroom window as this tree stood it's ground against the belching force of mother nature. My mighty sub-oak tree would not be made a fool of. But as God is my witness, every leaf was dislodged from it's mooring but for the life of me I cannot tell where they've gone. I can only assume they are somewhere in the Irwindale area piled up in front of the speedway grandstands. Geez how I love this weather.

Oh and farewell to Chris Penn a.k.a. Nice Guy Eddie. Rest in Peace!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
