The really big year is gonna be 1942!" The sheer obviousness and shamelessness of this line's intention to be the lead-in to the Sequel That Was Never to Be endears it to me somehow. But I too am waiting patiently for that day when the inmates really do take over and we finally get to see the movie that no one else wants to!Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-91699174825038311282008-10-30T18:51:00.000-07:002008-10-30T18:51:00.000-07:00"I don't think you're gonna hit 'em, Ward."Totally..."I don't think you're gonna hit 'em, Ward."

Totally agree with the comment on William's "1941" score. That march is fan-damn-tastic.

Still waiting patiently for "1942", Mr. Zemeckis, Mr. Gale, Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Milius.W.B. I enjoyed it enough visually (especially the house going over the edge) but my problem with it as a comedy was that it followed in the comedic vein of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World where no one, but no one, understands "brevity is the soul of wit."

I think it's much better than Mad World, much better, but it still felt hopelessly dated, even upon its release, comedy-wise. Now I'd like to see it again and see if my opinion on that would change. But I gotta be honest, I don't think it would. I've never found comedies of epic length involving huge setups funny, if you know what I mean. When the ferris wheel starts rolling it looks phenomenal, and how I adore those models (and wish Hollywood never stopped using them), but it doesn't make me laugh. A one liner by Groucho or a witticism by Woody makes me laugh but not big setpieces. Still, if only for the visuals I would like to see it again (and One From the Heart for the same reason).Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05730146625671701859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-76517087036405381672008-10-24T13:27:00.000-07:002008-10-24T13:27:00.000-07:00I've wanted to see 1941 in a theater for years---Y...I've wanted to see 1941 in a theater for years---YEARS!!! No one talks that much about how perfectly composed the shots are, especially the jitterbug scene.

I drove way out of my way to catch I Wanna Hold Your Hand because my youngest sister was an extra in that film.
