It was my grandmother, Patsy's oldest sister, who was named "Bridget."<br />My grandmother was 70 years old before she met her sister Patsy for the first time. We brought her over for a visit from her home in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo in 1969. Patsy was 69 at the time. And though they'd never met prior to that time, you'd have thought they'd been best friends their entire lives. They never stopped laughing, and it was almost eerie how similar their very distinctive laughs were.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-28276718892634959522007-04-07T07:01:00.000-07:002007-04-07T07:01:00.000-07:00Dennis, I am thoroughly abashed for having been so...Dennis, I am thoroughly abashed for having been so rough on Patsy in the Thelma Todd post you referred to. Now that TCM is running this series, I've come to appreciate Patsy much more. This is, I think, one of the nice things about blogs, when they're at their best. Your piece spurred memories of my mom pointing her out in a movie, just when I was trying to figure out what kind of a person this funny, unique woman was: "Oh, Patsy Kelly!", and after that I noticed her everywhere, it seemed. My affection for her had a lot to do with the fact that she seemed so much like a person who would live in my neighborhood, only she had much better comic timing, and her quirks were made interesting and funny. <BR/><BR/>Anyway, thanks for a thoughtful essay on Ms. Kelly (I never knew she was a lesbian, for example, and now it just makes her more intriguing); I love how you spring the article from a reader's question: "who's Patsy Kelly?". These online journals can really help keep the great-but-almost-forgotten stars alive, as my mom's generation, which witnessed their work when it was fresh, fades away.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-45292613026688017322007-04-04T12:58:00.000-07:002007-04-04T12:58:00.000-07:00This is the kind of post that makes your site inva...This is the kind of post that makes your site invaluable, sir.The 'Stachehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03426658288145524160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-88349882563933040932007-04-04T11:08:00.000-07:002007-04-04T11:08:00.000-07:00I just ran across this blog a couple of weeks ago ...I just ran across this blog a couple of weeks ago through Jim Emerson's blog, so how delightful to see a post about one of my favorite unjustly obscure actors. I also first encountered Patsy Kelly in "The North Avenue Irregulars" and just adored her. I knew right away who you were writing about, but thanks for the insights. I've added "My Son, the Hero" and "The Cowboy and The Lady" to my Netflix queue.Chip Chandlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03696803541107190012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-37926528979353582442007-04-04T10:50:00.000-07:002007-04-04T10:50:00.000-07:00Oh, that's who Patsy Kelly is.
