It has been ...Anonymous: No thread is truly dead!

It has been kind of gratifying to see the movie's rep hold up over the past four years, and hear it get name-checked often on people's short list of hilarious movies.

It hasn't been four years since I've seen it, but your comment (which led me to reread this post) has stirred the embers of desire to see this one again. And I agree-- it did hits heights that reminded me of seeing Blazing Saddles for the first time too.

Lately I've been on a kick of going back to watch movies that got mixed reviews when they were released, in the hopes of seeing them with fresh eyes/ears, the original complaints having kind of receded into the background noise. I've found that a lot of these movies are much better than I might have given them credit for had I seen them at the time, with all of the mixed reviews rattling around relatively fresh in my brain. Maybe Anchorman was like this for you?

By the way, just out of curiosity, how did you stumble upon this particular post?Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-72242703066345828762009-07-08T08:17:18.151-07:002009-07-08T08:17:18.151-07:00(four-year update)

I rented it yesterday and it had me literally crying I was laughing so hard. I can't put my finger on what sets this movie apart from Dodgeball -- but for me this was almost like watching "Blazing Saddles" for the first time. Delightfully, unpredictably, un-self-conciously silly. Perhaps Farrell is a better writer than actor?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1106071859207056322005-01-18T10:10:00.000-08:002005-01-18T10:10:00.000-08:00Carl: Steve Carell as the weatherman is absolutely...Carl: Steve Carell as the weatherman is absolutely terrific. ANd I love Ferrell's response to him after he (Carell) just kinda blows off the incident (badly paraphrased): "No, Brick, you killed a man with a trident. I saw it. I don't think you'll be able to sweep this one under the carpet." I wouldn't say the movie hits a wall, but it definitely slackens as it shambles to its climax. I bet Larry McCormick liked this movie.Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8795280.post-1105594608520971502005-01-12T21:36:00.000-08:002005-01-12T21:36:00.000-08:00I think that I just put too much at stake, particu...I think that I just put too much at stake, particularly in this case, on whether she liked it or not. As much as I value my independent thought processes, I desperately wanted her to like it, for my own selfish reasons, and because it would have given me great pleasure to see her lose herself in laughter over something as supremely silly as Will Ferrell having a very serious conversation with his dog, sans subtitles. But it does drive me crazy when those moments come and you look over, expecting at least a surface level of engagement, and you see the nose in the book, or the blue glow of the iPod on the face. SHE MUST LEARN TO TAKE MY TASTE IN COMEDY SERIOUSLY!!!!!Dennis Cozzaliohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01954848938471883431noreply@blogger.com
